My Story

Jess Ducey (they/them) is a writer, producer, fundraiser, life model, and occasional clown with a penchant for new work and queer joy. They are co-chair of the board of National Queer Theater, director of programming for Ring of Keys, operations manager for Yaa Samar! Dance Theatre, and co-producer of Down to Clown, a monthly community for new work development. Jess loves Fringe festivals and touring, and has produced work at Edinburgh, New Zealand, Orlando, NYC, and Montreal Fringe. Catch them at Edinburgh 2025 with Edu Diaz's multi-awarded solo clown show A DRAG IS BORN. Jess previously line-produced for Moxie Arts NYC’s 2024 incubator for new musicals, co-founded and produced Queer AF, Wellington, New Zealand’s first festival of queer art, and created Unfinished Business, an immersive work in which artists shared works in progress over a dinner party in their flat. Their writing has appeared in Radio NZ, Landfall, and Off-Broadway in Primary Stages’ Echoes writers group, where they began development of a play inspired by the true story of doctors who swallowed LEGO heads for science. Jess enjoys nature, dinner parties, public transit, books, unions, cheese, other people’s dogs, cycling (slowly!), knitting, and creating order from chaos. فلسطين الحرة

Gender Identity
iOne’s internal, deeply held sense of gender. Some people identify completely with the gender they were assigned at birth (usually male or female), while others may identify with only a part of that gender, or not at all. Some people identify with another gender entirely. Unlike gender expression, gender identity is not visible to others.

Race/Ethnicity
iRacial identity is the qualitative meaning one ascribes to one’s racial group, whereas ethnic identity is a concept that refers to one’s sense of self as a member of an ethnic group. At their core, both constructs reflect an individual’s sense of self as a member of a group; however, racial identity integrates the impact of race and related factors, while ethnic identity is focused on ethnic and cultural factors. We celebrate our Keys’ intersectionality and understand that creating one’s racial/ethnic identity is a fluid and nonlinear process that varies for every person. Many folks will identify with more than one background while others will identify with a single group more broadly.
